FC Barcelona have reportedly reactivated their interest in a Chelsea star and offered €42 million plus one of their own players for their target. While the Brazil global ultimately chose to stay at Stamford Bridge, owing largely to the arrival of Sarri as head coach, Barcelona instead signed Malcom from Bordeaux.
€60m is a great value for a player like Willian, who is in the final stages of his prime and the current contract at Chelsea. Reports suggested Barca had made a swap deal for Willian, an offer consisting of £49 million plus his compatriot.
The Blues have shown glimpses of becoming an exciting attacking team, but Sarri is still trying to fit the pieces together following his summer arrival at Stamford Bridge. The Chelsea head coach also reiterated Willian's importance as a wide man to the squad. "For us, "Willie" is a very important player and it's impossible that he could leave in January".
Warriors request review of Cavaliers' Patrick McCaw signing
At least four teams are reportedly interested in signing McCaw, while the Cavaliers may also want to bring him back. How long the league's review will take has not been determined, nor is it clear what the Warriors might be seeking.
Asked about Barcelona's reported interest in Willian, Sarri was quoted by Sky Sports as saying on Friday: "I didn't receive anything yesterday".
"As you know very well I am not in control of the transfer market", Sarri told a press conference today.
The Chelsea boss then explained how Willian can further up his displays on the pitch.
Elaborating on his desire for Willian to play at a higher level, Sarri wants the winger to show more initiative off the ball and to make himself a bigger threat in the penalty area.
