Ellen DeGeneres criticized for defending Kevin Hart

While the Academy is coming up on a record-late deadline for announcing an Oscars host, it sounds like they could very well go back to Hart-that is if Ellen Degeneres has anything to say about it.

"If he comes out vociferously apologizing, then everybody deserves a second chance", she said. "While Ellen's re-telling of the conversation is a loose paraphrasing of it, the bottomline is this: Hart was always among the top choices to host this year's show". The funnyman said he was "upset" by people's harsh reactions to his past offensive tweets and angered that the Academy gave him an ultimatum. "We want him to host ... whatever we can do, we would be thrilled, and he should host the Oscars", she said, recalling the conversation.

"I'm sorry that I hurt people".

"It's tough for me because it was an attack, a malicious attack on my character, to end me", Hart says in the interview which airs today. "And you and I will talk before anything else".

In December, it was announced that Kevin Hart would be taking the helms of the Oscar hosting position making him the fourth Black comedian in history to hold that title. "It wasn't a coincidence that the day after I received the job, tweets somehow manifested from 2008", Hart said.

Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting last month after tweets from 2009-2011 resurfaced with derogatory language referring to gay people and disparaging comments about sexuality.

The motion picture Academy has not named a replacement host for its February 24 awards show.

It’s official! St. Louis will host 2020 NHL All-Star Game
Next, we'll have the Winter Classic on January 1, 2020, which is moving south for the first time ever. The weekend will feature several hockey-themed events, including the All-Stars Skills competition.

On DeGeneres' show, Hart said that he believed he ultimately had to "take a stand against the trolls".

DeGeneres encouraged Hart to ignore the "haters" and "trolls" on the internet, saying that after private conversations with Hart, she sees that, in the past, he did not understand "how risky those words are" but that he has grown.

"And you can't let them destroy you ...", DeGeneres said. You've already expressed that it's...not realizing how risky those words are, not realizing how many kids are killed for being gay or beaten up every day.

DeGeneress told Hart he should take the job, to prevent his critics from winning.

But DeGeneres said they will win if he doesn't host the Oscars. DeGeneres faces scrutiny for being too lenient with a friend and using her own status as a famous and powerful gay person to let his previous comments go.

"You have grown; you have apologised; you're apologising again right now".
