76ers' Butler 'disrespectful' in argument with coach Brown

Just two months after joining the Philadelphia 76ers, Jimmy Butler is reportedly unhappy with his role on the team. Still, things have not been ideal in the City of Brotherly Love, and as a result, the team's newest acquisition is challenging aspects of the team's offense.

ESPN's Ramona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski report that Butler has "aggressively challenged" Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown about his role in the team's offense and the system in place.

According the report, however, Brown viewed the incident more as falling in line with the nature of his relationship with Butler as opposed to a singular show of disrespect. Nevertheless, the franchise's full focus and resources remain on making this new partnership work this season and beyond.

The Sixers, 25-14, acquired Butler via trade with Minnesota in mid-November, and they are 14-8 since the deal.

When the Sixers traded for Jimmy Butler, there were some around the league who were anxious his attitude would have a negative impact on Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. Butler has also met privately with Brown and general manager Elton Brand about ways to integrate his style of play better in the 76ers' offense, ESPN reported.

Butler, who had an unceremonious exit from Minnesota, is set to become a free agent this summer.

Brown talks often about the challenge of growing his group of young stars together into a championship-level team, in the same way San Antonio (where he'd been assistant on coach Gregg Popovich's staff) did with Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker. Rival teams believe Butler will eventually decide to take meetings with interested suitors in July.

Butler missed the team's last game against the Phoenix Suns as well as their practice on Friday with an upper respiratory infection, and is now listed as questionable for their next game against the Dallas Mavericks.
