Obsidian Debuts ‘The Outer Worlds’ Sci-Fi RPG via Trailer

With a retro-sci-fi vibe and a wonderful Western colour palette, The Outer Worlds looks to continue Obsidian's strong tradition of delivering dense RPGs. From what we can see in the trailer, the game looks like an interesting blend of Fallout, BioShock, and maybe a bit of Borderlands for good measure.

Hell, even Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, co-creators of the original Fallout, are leading development. You play as a colonist that stumbles on a conspiracy threatening to destroy the colony, and in true Obsidian style, your actions will dictate the outcome of the game. The government seized the Corporation, but all of a sudden their carefully calculated equation appears unpredictable variable is you and your decisions. So basically - as a fan - I'm saying that Obsidian's new IP is the game of the games that we're never going to get all wrapped into one conveniently packaged RPG experience!

At The Game Awards 2018, a new game from Obsidian was revealed called The Outer Worlds. The trailer showcases the unsafe and whacky world the game is set in, and sets the tone for the game.

Obsidian Entertainment's latest game is set to be published by Private Division, a new indie label from Take-Two. Players can decide if their character is afraid of certain enemies, which temporarily decreases the character's stats while fighting them but provides permanent perks as a trade-off.

The Outer Worlds releases in 2019 for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
