Joanna Lumley pays tribute as Absolutely Fabulous co-star June Whitfield dies

During her life in showbusiness, she tackled bawdy comedy in the Carry On films, and starred in the long-running sitcom Terry And June, as well as playing the grandmother in Absolutely Fabulous.

She said: "I am heartbroken to lose such a darling friend and shall never forget her sensational talent, humour and her generosity to us all who had the joy of working with her on Ab Fab".

At 92, she was made a dame in the 2017 Birthday Honours for her services to drama and entertainment in a career spanning eight decades.

Her agent confirmed that she died peacefully on Friday night (December 28).

On Twitter fans paid their respects.

She later starred in the 2016 Absolutely Fabulous movie.

The pair began their television partnership in 1968 and played another husband and wife team in Happy Ever After in the mid Seventies.

'Dame June replied. Fifteen years later when I met her she had all my letters and the notes of the show she sponsored.

The brilliant and gorgeous June Whitfield has sadly passed away at the age of 93.

'Her spectacular career is unparalleled in its longevity, with seven decades of being a key element in numerous high profile and successful shows. "I live in delight", she added.

Spice Girl Emma Bunton, who worked with June in the big screen adaption of Absolutely Fabulous said: "So sad this evening".
