When former US President George HW Bush's body travels to Washington DC to lie in state, he'll be accompanied by a military guard of honour - and his faithful companion: Sully the service dog.

Not all U.S. presidents have been fond of dogs though: John F Kennedy was allergic to dogs, and Donald Trump does not have one.

Various political leaders, including former President Barack Obama and current President Donald Trump, have sent out public statements commemorating Bush's legacy, with Obama praising the "legacy of service" Bush left behind as the 41st president of the United States. Howard heads the Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region, the almost 4,000-strong military task force that is overseeing the funeral.

The 41st U.S. president's body is scheduled to lie in state there from Monday to Wednesday.

"We are forever grateful to his service to the American people".

Trump was expected to meet with Schumer and House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, respectively, on Tuesday to discuss the issue, and they have also delayed their talks until next week after Bush's death, CNBC quoted democratic aides as saying.

Following the service at the National Cathedral, Bush will be flown to Houston with a scheduled arrival of around 11.30am NZT. Bush's body will lie in repose there from 6:45 p.m. local time on December 5 until at 6 a.m. on December 6, with a guard of honor in attendance.

May accuses Labour of pushing Britain towards no-deal Brexit
May answered: "It will be a decision for parliament". "The bottom line is that we must not end up with a no deal by default". The deal has been criticised by both eurosceptics and europhiles among May's own Conservative Party.

On Friday, a private funeral service with about 1200 invited guests will be held at the church.

George W Bush said that during his two terms in office, he rarely called on his father's counsel.

The locomotive has been painted the colours of the Air Force One plane used during his presidency and bears the number "4141" in honour of the 41st president.

The train will take about two and a half hours to make the roughly 70-mile trip through Hufsmith, Pinehurst, Magnolia, Todd Mission, Stoneham, Navasota, Millican, and Wellborn.

Following the death of the former president at the weekend, Sully will move on to help the next person in need with George W. Bush confirming the details on Instagram.

George Herbert Walker Bush took office in 1989 as the 41st USA president and served one term in the White House.

The USS George H.W. Bush, the last of 10 Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, was commissioned in 2009, and Bush himself attended its naming ceremony in 2002. Bush's casket will then be transported by motorcade to the presidential library, where he will be buried at the gated family plot near his wife and their daughter Robin, who died of leukaemia at age 3. He passed away aged 94. Months earlier, he lost the love of his life, his wife of 73 years, Barbara.
