Spotify is giving a free Google Home Mini to Premium Family members

It said it expected total users to rise 24 to 29 percent to between 199 and 206 million, with premium subscriptions growing to between 90 and 96 million. Total revenue, meanwhile, should be in the ballpark of 1.35 billion euros to 1.55 billion euros.

While Spotify's third-quarter results were largely in-line with estimates, Buckingham Research Group analyst Matthew Harrigan said he's "looking for new growth initiatives". This was attributed to Spotify's new family and student plans, which brings in more users, but not for more fees.

"Spotify operates what we view as the most attractive streaming service with a heavy investment in discovery differentiating the service".

Whilst it seems likely that the partnership between Google and Spotify would feature terms and conditions to block this method of bagging a cheap smart home device, I would not be completely stunned if the two companies left the loophole open.

All in all it wasn't a bad quarter for Spotify, especially in light of increased competition mainly from Apple Music, which still trails the company's service. This gave Apple Music, with over 50 million users, a strong hold on Apple Watch owners.

Starting 1 November, if you're the account owner on a Spotify Premium Family plan in the U.S., you can get a free Google Home Mini, Spotify has announced.
