Facebook down: Social network goes dark

Some users began to see Facebook return to normal about 30 minutes after the outage began.

This error message popped up when we tried to get on Facebook.

The incident saw Facebook's share price drop before recovering slightly.

Several subscribers took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to complain that they could not log into their account.

The outage knocked out Facebook's main website for some users and made using Facebook Messenger hard. Instagram appears to be running fine. The company has not commented on what led to the outage. The social media giant was reporting outages all over Canada and the United States. A look at the real-time outage map on Down Detector suggests the social network is down for a large chunk of the USA, especially along the eastern seaboard.
