Modric named world’s best,ends Ronaldo-Messi reign

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Best FIFA Football Awards from the Royal Festival Hall in London.

Modric won the award earlier this morning, beating Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohammed Salah for the award.

Do you think Messi should have won the award this year?

"Of course we can win our fourth straight [Champions League title], nobody believed we could win the third and here it is".

France's Didier Deschamps was named coach of the year for masterminding their World Cup triumph in Russian Federation.

"When I accepted the job, I wanted to first just enjoy everything in football and then to promote women's football", said Pedros, who took over at the start of last season.

Messi opted for eventual victor Modric as his top pick, placing France and PSG teen star Kylian Mbappe second and Ronaldo third.

"I'm still not realising how good a year I had collectively, individually, and I'm very proud for everything I achieved this year, and it will be remembered forever".

Egyptian global Mohamed Salah won the best goal award at the 2018 Federation Internationale de Football Association top awards ceremony.

49ers Confirm Jimmy Garoppolo Out For Season With Torn ACL
The Niners were banking on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo following up his fantastic close to the 2017 season with another big year. He completed 60 percent of his passes for 718 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions before getting hurt on Sunday.

The 32-year-old Marta, whose Orlando Pride team reached the the US National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) playoff semi-finals, had won the previous FIFA Women's Player of the Year award five times, most recently in 2010.

In the summer his worldwide team-mate Dejan Lovren said: "Modric would probably be getting more attention if he was German or Spanish".

Brazil's Marta was crowned best women's player for a record sixth time for her role in winning the Copa America to beat out Lyon duo Ada Hegerberg and Dzsenifer Marozsan.

Malawi national team Belgian coach Ronny Van de Geneughden (RVG) nominated his compatriot Kevin van de Bruyne to be considered as the victor of this year's FIFA Ballon D'or while his captain John Lanjesi favoured Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Two guys we don't know", actor Idris Elba, who hosted the show, said after highlighting the absence of Messi and Ronaldo.

"This trophy is also for my family without who I would not be the player and person that I am", he said.

Modric has had to accept playing in Ronaldo's shadow during six years at Madrid even as the 1.72 meters (5-foot-8) technically-gifted Croatian's ingenuity on the ball and passing range made him as a key component in the team's European dominance.
