A second nun, Sister Anapurna, told local paper the Indian Express, that Bishop Franco has "political clout" in Kerala. On Monday, the Kerala High Court directed the state government to inform it about the steps taken by the special investigation team of the Kerala Police probing the case.
On Saturday, in a protest organised by the joint Christian Council, the nuns and other protesters marched in protest to the High Court in Kochi, Kerala, holding placards and banners, UCAN news reports.
Unlike the rest of India, where Christianity remains a minority religion practiced by just 2.3% of the total population, Kerala is home to a sizable Christian community that dates back hundreds of years.
However, Poonjar MLA PC George while speaking at a press conference had stirred up fresh controversy regarding the case where he reportedly questioned the nun's character as well as questioned her allegations.

Anapura noted that Mulakkal has been targeting her group since they declared support for his accuser, saying the bishop is "trying to coerce a statement against the survivor from us".
The legislator's comments were also slammed by the NCW Chief Rekha Sharma who said that the incident was "shameful".
The priest also hit out at those protesting against him. I suffered it silently.
