The Croatian global has already expressed his desire to leave Madrid this summer as he is unhappy with the amount of playing time he had been given since he joined from Inter in a £22.5 million deal three years ago.

Inter have prepared a bumper annual salary of £10million for the player but new Real manager Julen Lopetegui is adamant that he is going nowhere.

Having featured for Croatia in the World Cup final in Russia, Kovacic wants a more prominent role in club football.

Thibaut Courtois is linked to Real Madrid, but Shaka Hislop thinks Los Blancos' current keeper Keylor Navas isn't getting the respect he deserves.

"Keylor is phenomenal", he added.

"He's delighted to be with Real Madrid and we're delighted to have him with us".

"[Kovacic] has trained with his team-mates as usual and there has not been the slightest problem, I love him and we are delighted that he is among us".

Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is joining from Athletic Bilbao for a world-record £71.6m fee. Speaking on Monday, Madrid boss Lopetegui seemed calm. "We've been able to enjoy watching him play and we will continue to enjoy watching him".

Kovacic has been agitating for a transfer in the close season and told the Spanish daily in June that it was owing to his lack of first-team chances.

AS claim Kovacic told Lopetegui he would only stay if he was guaranteed a place in the team. "Gareth Bale is obviously a great player but it's not for me to make comparisons".

"Bale is an extraordinary player and we're confident he will have a great season".
