Former EPA chief Scott Pruitt devastated after being forced to resign

"The non-profit news organization notes that during his tenure on the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, "[Wheeler] worked on every major piece of environmental and energy-related legislation before Congress for over a decade".

I have accepted the resignation of Scott Pruitt as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.

EPA Deputy Administrator Andrew Wheeler will become the agency's acting leader next week.

Noting that Pruitt's resignation "should be welcome news to anybody who values clean air and water", Earthjustice president Trip Van Noppen concluded in a statement on Thursday that it "does not close the chapter on the Trump administration's continuous assault on commonsense environmental safeguards". We have made tremendous progress and the future of the EPA is very bright!

While both sides of the American political spectrum have demonstrated "hostility" toward their political opponents, Garland said, "this present ugliness is from the group that often stated that tolerance was the virtue most needed in America only a few short years ago".

Now, in Wheeler, Murray not only has one of his former lobbyists inside the EPA, he has them running it.

In his appearance before the Senate committee, Wheeler pledged to recuse himself from any EPA decision-making that conflicted with his work for coal companies or other industries.

Democrats and environmental groups decried Wheeler as a coal apologist and former top aide to a GOP senator who rejects mainstream climate science.

US job growth strong; unemployment rate rises to 4 per cent
Workers who haven't gone to college accounted for all of this month's net increase in the labor force and employment. One area that remains sluggish is wage growth, which grew 2.7% when compared with the same period a year ago .

"Andrew Wheeler is equally unqualified to serve as the nation's chief environmental steward. He is, without question, a member of the coal industry's Hall of Fame", said Sen. The president cheered his EPA chief's moves to boost fossil fuel production and roll back regulations opposed by corporate interests.

Inhofe, who dismisses global warming as a hoax and famously tossed a snowball on the Senate floor to prove his point, hailed Wheeler's ascension to EPA chief.

The Environmental Working Group, a public health and environment watchdog, called Pruitt "unquestionably the worst head of the agency in its 48-year history".

Notably, Wheeler accompanied Murray Energy's CEO, Robert Murray, to the now-notorious meeting past year with Energy Secretary Rick Perry, the one in which Murray handed Perry a 16-point action plan ostensibly created to "help in getting America's coal miners back to work". The most high-profile of those rollbacks was perhaps Pruitt's efforts to repeal the Clean Power Plan, the Obama-era regulation that would have placed emissions limits on power plants. "He came to me and said I have such great confidence in the administration I don't want to be a distraction". Like Pruitt, this veteran coal lobbyist has shown only disdain for the EPA's vital mission to protect Americans' health and our environment.

No quotes in support of Wheeler were offered other than those by the president. All three face tough re-elections in states Trump won easily last fall.

He denied wrongdoing amid multiple inquiries into his conduct.

An early June disclosure that a top EPA aide helped Mr Pruitt try to buy a used mattress from the Trump International Hotel was particularly embarrassing to the president, one of the people said.

And former Inhofe counsel Mandy Gunasekara is now principal deputy assistant administrator in EPA's air office.
