Apple has prevented the Telegram messaging service from updating globally ever since Russian Federation ordered Apple to remove the service from its stores, Telegram's CEO and founder said on Thursday.

Attention to the lack of upgrades grew after Telegram users complained that some of the app's features ceased working with the release of iOS 11.4 this week.

Apple is looking to expand its digital advertising business by showing ads for the App Store within third-party apps, according to reports. "We are continuing our efforts to resolve the situation".

"We sent them [Apple] a legally binding letter and are awaiting their legally binding reply".

But despite the attention, it is unclear how this might have translated to usage and app installs. Earlier this week, speaking to local newspapers, director of Roskomnadzor (Russia's Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media) said that the country has asked Apple to help Russia block Telegram.
