Stephen A: LeBron texted Kevin Durant about playing in LA

LeBron James is approaching a deadline to decide whether to opt into his contract for next season or become a free agent.

After losing to KD and the Warriors in back-to-back NBA Finals, it's hard to conceive that the best player in the world would text the man who just beat him to join forces.

Like James, Durant can opt-out of his contract.

In Basketball Society Online's article reporting the news, it specifically cited that James will look to use the platform to launch, amongst other things, a Space Jam 2 trailer. "Because now you have the people's MVP and you have, like, the NBA's MVP; I think the people's MVP was definitely James [Harden], but the NBA MVP is definitely LeBron [James]".

The King really could be heading to Los Angeles.

Also in the lineup is 45-year-old goalkeeper Essam Al Hadary, who becomes the oldest player to ever play in a World Cup . Just minutes later, however, a second penalty was given to Saudi Arabia , and this time converted by Salman Al Faraj .

Disgruntled Spurs star forward Kawhi Leonard has been reported as the most likely to make the move with James, but according to ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, LeBron has also been gauging the interest of reigning Finals MVP Kevin Durant.

"Kevin Durant ain't coming to L.A. He wants to surpass LeBron James". According to ESPN, that is exactly what Cleveland is trying to do.

"This tells me a lot actually".

"I don't know what Kevin Durant's response to him was", Smith added. But I will tell you what I did hear, is that behind the scenes Kevin Durant is like 'why would I do that?

The Lakers will be able to officially speak with James on July 1, assuming he does not exercise his player option.
