Free Climbing Raccoon Captures Hearts and Minds Scaling Minnesota Skyscraper

On Tuesday, the raccoon slowly scaled the building, reaching the 23rd floor as its legend grew on social media with every floor it climbed.

It was dubbed the #MPRraccoon because Minnesota Public Radio, whose offices are in a nearby building, documented the animal's long, odd trip.

As of Tuesday morning, it was 12 stories high, seen taking a nap outside a window.

Onlookers began to gather on the streets below as calls were placed to Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota and the city of St. Paul's animal control to plead for help.

Rescue efforts by the St. Paul Fire Department and building workers, who fashioned a makeshift ladder, have proven unsuccessful.

The story began gaining traction on Tuesday afternoon, when an employee of a company located on the 13th floor of the UBS Tower saw the creature hanging outside of his office window.

The writer and director of "Guardians Of The Galaxy", which features a raccoon as one of the characters, said he'd donate $1,000 to charity for the rescue of the raccoon.

"Raccoons don't think ahead very much, so raccoons don't have very good impulse control", she said, admitting she could barely sleep she was so anxious about the animal.

Many citizens posted on Twitter they were concerned for the raccoon's safety and were anxious it had not eaten since it started its journey.

A staffer at the private firm said they were still arranging for a live release.
