What do you think, Walking Dead fans? With contract talks still underway, the exact parameters of that exit for the lead in the ensemble cast are still being determined but it looks like Lincoln will be a presence in about six episodes of the new season.

"The Walking Dead" star Andrew Lincoln will not be returning to the longstanding zombie drama after the upcoming Season 9, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap. Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, recently landed "Whiskey Cavalier", a new series on ABC opposite Scott Foley premiering during the Fall midseason. Comicbook.com adds that Lincoln will be returning to the United Kingdom to spend more time with his family.

Collider also reported that AMC has offered the leading role to Norman Reedus, who plays fan-favorite character Daryl Dixon. Us Weekly just reported that actor Norman Reedus is getting a pay raise to become the lead of the series, getting $20 million to stay on the series. Since its publication, Comic Book and TheWrap have debuted their own reports on the matter. Main cast members Lincoln, Reedus, Lauren Cohan, and Danai Gurira are set to return for the ninth season, which is now in production.

After the departure of Chandler Riggs (Carl "CORALL" Grimes) last season, Lincoln's Rick is one of the last Season 1 characters still on the show. Fear The Walking Dead has very successfully rebooted itself in season 4 and The Walking Dead could do the same.

It's also unclear if this decision comes from Lincoln's camp or from AMC, which is planning a multi-medium expansion of The Walking Dead brand.
