Trump signs proclamation sending National Guard to southern border

Nielsen emphasized that the National Guard deployment would be "a partnership" with the border states and their governors. At the Pentagon, officials were struggling to answer questions about the plan, including rudimentary details on whether it would involve National Guard members, as similar programs in the past have done.

Until Congress gives President Trump funding for the physical border wall, his decision to send troops to the border, consistent with his Constitutional power as commander in chief, not only sends a strong message to the world that our borders will be secure, but more importantly preserves America's national sovereignty.

Sec. 2. The Secretary of Homeland Security shall work with the Secretary of Defense to provide any training or instruction necessary for any military personnel, including National Guard units, to effectively support Department of Homeland Security personnel in securing the border.

"Donald Trump wanted the world to crush us, to erase our existence".

Specifically, as Steve Vladeck of the University of Texas told Vox's Alex Ward, it "requires specific congressional authorization before the president can use the military in a domestic law enforcement capacity".

From 2006-2008, President George W. Bush deployed 6,000 guardsmen to Southern border states, costing $1.2 billion and assisting with 11.7% of total apprehensions at the border and 9.4% of marijuana seized in that time.

Nielsen admitted that the president has been "frustrated" over the issue, but said the option of deploying National Guard troops to the border has always been on the table. Federal law prohibits the military from being used to enforce laws, meaning troops can not actually participate in immigration enforcement.

There are stellar-mass black holes - the super-dense remnant left when a star more than eight times the mass of the Sun dies. And since most black holes can't even be spotted that way, they calculate that there are likely thousands of them there.

Sending National Guard troops to the border is not unprecedented. (Given that three of the four governors of southwestern border states are Republicans, their agreement looks likely.) But just because it's legal doesn't necessarily make it a good idea. Those numbers continued to fall in the first six months of Fiscal Year 2018, according to statistics from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The office of California Gov.

It said Nielsen discussed the planned National Guard deployment with Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray on Wednesday and told him the troops will not carry arms.

Later Tuesday, Trump shared a clip of himself speaking at the U.S. In a nonbinding statement approved unanimously Wednesday, the senators asked Mexico's government to freeze joint efforts "in the fight against transnational organized crime" until Trump starts acting "with the civility and respect that the people of Mexico deserve".

Within 30 days of the date of this memorandum, the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security, in coordination with the Attorney General, shall submit to the President a report detailing their findings and an action plan, including specific recommendations as to any other executive authorities that should be invoked to defend the border and security of the United States.

It's not as drastic a move as the president hinted at yesterday, when he said the border would be secured "militarily", adding "we really haven't done that before-certainly not very much before".

The announcement comes the day after President Donald Trump hinted at the move during comments to reporters at a lunch with leaders of Baltic countries.
