Samsung has finally fixed the positioning of the fingerprint scanner, which is now positioned directly below the camera module.

We get to hear something similar every year when Samsung launches a new flagship handset and 2018 is no different. These are MRPs, but MOPs of both the phones should be very close. Let's compare them and understand what each brings to the table. However, once the specifications and features (or lack thereof) were revealed, many were disappointed to learn that the Galaxy S9 wouldn't be a significant departure from what we saw with the S8. The phone saw specs broadly unchanged from its predecessor S8, except for superior camera-linked features.

The latest Galaxy S9 Plus arrives with a 6.2-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display running at a resolution of 1440x2960pixels, and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9.

Or there's my big wish: Better battery life. The devices run on Android 8.0 Oreo. It is possible to extend the memory up to 400GB using microSD card.

The S9 holds a 4GB RAM memory, and the S9+ boasts of a 6GB RAM. In the USA and other select markets, it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, with four cores clocked at 2.8GHz and four cores clocked at 1.7GHz. The slow-mo videos can also be turned into GIFs.

The new camera will take up to 12 shots at once and combine them into a single 12MP image, reducing pixelated noise in some shots.

The Galaxy S9 will automatically choose which aperture mode to use depending on the lighting, but users can choose which mode to use in the camera app's pro mode. The S9 can flip between two apertures: opening up for 28 per cent more light in the dark and closing back up for bright shots.

The cameras also boast AR capabilities, with Samsung introducing its AR Emoji, the company's answer to Apple's Animated Emojis. The feature, however, will be available only to a select regions for now. Connectivity options include Gigabit LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, USB Type-C, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and, yes, the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Nokia's also included its "Bothie camera" on the Sirocco. A character could be selected from the Galaxy S9's stable and it would mimic expressions, head gestures and mouth movements as the user spoke. According to an India Today Tech report, Galaxy S9 will start at Rs 62,500 for the base 64GB storage version going all the way to Rs 71,000 for the top-end 256GB storage version. It has been announced that Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be launched on March 16 in selected markets - but whether India is one of these selected markets is still unknown. Price-wise, you're looking at £739 for the Galaxy S9 and £869 for the Galaxy S9+. Case in point is the Galaxy S7 edge (review), which will now be seen as a more favourable purchase than before.

Huw Jones says Scotland must improve further to beat Ireland
Jones was impressed by the home performance and blamed himself for only the second defeat of his 26 Tests in charge. If there was, we shouldn't let that detract from a great Scotland victory. "Don't get distracted by other things".
