Fu also urged people from across society to donate money for relief efforts and also asked companies to dispatch heavy machines to Hualien to help the county continue with the rescue mission that has lasted more than 67 hours.

Rescuers are combing the rubble of collapsed buildings, in a search for about 67 people missing after a strong natural disaster killed at least seven near Taiwan's popular tourist city of Hualien.

There are 92 St Lucians now living in Taiwan according to Taiwan's National Immigration Agency.

Al Jazeera's Rob McBride, reporting from Hualien, said firefighters believe some 50 people remain trapped in one of the buildings that "simply toppled over".

So far, no signs of life have been detected from the room.

The others missing in the hotel are five members of a family from China, including parents, grandparents and their 12-year-old son.

The daughter of victim Chiang Chen-chang, who was employed at the Beauty Stay Hotel, said she saw her father's name on the missing persons list during her shift working at the emergency operation centre.
