Snow and ice warnings to continue across country

Heavy sleet, hail and snow showers are expected to follow on Friday morning. "Cloudier across Scotland and Northern Ireland with rain, sleet and snow edging southeastwards".

The Met Office said: 'Rain, sleet and hill snow is expected to clear northwestern Scotland late on Thursday evening, and these clearer conditions will spread to all parts by early Friday morning. "Southwest breezes will gradually freshen everywhere". As well as the widespread snow showers, frost and icy stretches are likely, Met Eireann has said.

There will be a frosty start to Friday morning but otherwise tomorrow will be bright and cold with wintry showers becoming more isolated and many places having long dry periods. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in strong and gusty winds.
