The Israeli Prime Minister noted that in the midst of the Islamic State's (IS) military defeat in Iraq and Syria, Tehran was expanding its influence in the region, and "trying to create a land bridge from Iran to Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza".

Officials said an Iranian passenger plane on a domestic flight crashed into the country's Zagros mountains today, killing all 66 people on board.

During the reprisal raid, one of the eight Israeli F-16 fighter jets that took part in the operation was apparently hit by a Syrian anti-aircraft missile and crashed.

The flareup on the northern border marked the first direct confrontation between the Israeli air force and the Iranian regime on Israeli territory.

"There Iran hopes to complete a contiguous empire, linking Tehran to Tartus, the Caspian to the Mediterranean", he said, adding that Israel would "continue to prevent Iran from establishing a permanent presence in Syria".

Netanyahu also urged Iran not to test Israel's resolve and noted that Israel would act against Iran if necessary and not just its proxies.

"We are completely prepared to defend our land", he stressed during a meeting with Arab League chief Ahmed Abul Gheit on the margins of the Munich Security Conference.

"I'll say this, he lies eloquently", Netanyahu said.

"There is special meaning to the fact that we are standing at the place where 11 of our athletes were murdered just because they were Jews and Israelis", Netanyahu said. "If that's true, why do they hang gays from cranes in city squares?"

In his speech Netanyahu, accused Iran of openly threatening to "annihilate Israel with its six million Jews".

"Can you imagine Iranian submarines next to the US Sixth Fleet?"

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Iran represents the "greatest threat to our world", urging the worldwide community to confront a "regime" in Tehran that "threatens peace".

Netanyahu also called on world powers to scrap the 2015 Iran deal which eased economic sanctions on Iran in return for curbing its nuclear weapons program.

"The concessions to Hitler only emboldened the Nazi regime", he said. "Well-intentioned leaders only made war more hard and costly", he said. "One championed a master race, the other champions a master faith", said Netanyahu. It released an Iranian tiger in our region. In return, police say Netanyahu had operated on Milchan's behalf on US visa matters, legislated a tax break and connected him with an Indian businessman.

He said: "I can assure that if Iran's interests are not secured, Iran will respond, will respond seriously and I believe it would be a response that means people would be sorry for taking the erroneous action they did".

Israeli politicians accused Poland's prime minister of anti-Semitism for equating Polish perpetrators in the Holocaust to supposed "Jewish perpetrators".

But Iran's Mohammad Javad Zarif told the Munich Security Conference that was "delusional thinking".

The statement in Polish and English said Morawiecki's comments were "by no means intended to deny the Holocaust".
