Heavy snow hitting Thursday evening to continue all day Friday

Snow bands can be moderate to heavy at times, significantly reducing visibilities and causing slippery and slick roads. The Winter Storm Warning for IN counties will begin at 9 p.m. EST Thursday and will expire by midnight EST Saturday.

The next wave of snowfall is still expected on Saturday with amounts ranging between 1 to 3 inches.

"Accumulations are forecast to range from 6 inches or more across much of New England, to as much as a foot in the Adirondacks", the NWS said. If the storm shifts north, the amounts will be higher and if it moves south, they will be lower.

Officially, 0.04 inches of precipitation was recorded at the Dane County Regional Airport on Wednesday, boosting Madison's February total to 0.49 inches, 0.19 inches above normal.

A storm is expected to clobber Chicago, Detroit and Milwaukee with heavy snow, gusty winds and freezing temperatures that will slow travel for millions of commuters on Thursday evening and Friday.
