Avalanche hits army post along LoC in Kupwara, 3 soldiers killed


Three soldiers were killed and another was injured after an army post came under an avalanche at Machil sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Friday afternoon.

Indian Army spokesperson said, "The three soldiers who killed in the avalanche were part of a team posted in Machhil sector of Kupwara district".

He said another army man was injured in the avalanche.

The surviving soldier was shifted to 92 base hospital for treatment.

The deceased soldiers were identified as Havaldar Kamlesh Kumar, Naik Balbeer and Sepoy Rajinder. The SASE issued a medium-danger avalanche warning of level-3 in higher reaches of Baramulla district and low danger warning of level-2 in Kupwara, Bandipore, Shopian and Kargil districts.

Reports said that four army men went missing after the avalanche hits army post and all the four army men trapped under snow have been evacuated. The people living in higher reaches of these districts had been asked to avoid movement in the avalanche-prone areas and slopes. His condition is reported stable.

Earlier in the month, as many as 11 people were killed after the Tangdhar avalanche hit the Kupwara-Tangdhar road in the state.
